"sigh"
sandrini,

Greetings from LiveJournal!

First off, we want to thank you for being a member. We also
want to
let you know that your paid membership expires on 2003-02-07.

You can renew any time: new time you purchase simply extends
your
membership, so you don't "lose" your current remaining
time. You can
renew your membership immediately by visiting LiveJournal's online
payment site at http://www.livejournal.com/paidaccounts

While there are a lot of nice LiveJournal features available
only to
members that make membership worthwhile (with more "members
only"
features in the works...), we think the biggest reason to renew
your
membership is because you are helping to support a community
that you
care about and that puts its users first.

LiveJournal prides itself on being supported and developed by
the
people who use it. We are run primarily by dedicated volunteers
from
around the world. We don't want the uglier, more commercial aspects
of the Internet to intrude on things as personal as someone's
journal. That's why LiveJournal is banner free! That is also
why we
release our software as open source. We still have to pay the
bills,
however. If you want LiveJournal to be there for you, please
be there
for us. We rely on our member's support to keep us going.

As an example of how expensive it can be to run LiveJournal,
there
are over 30 servers powering LiveJournal. LiveJournal also pays
thousands of dollars a month just to co-locate the servers and

pay for network access. We also regularly purchase new hardware
to
improve the site's performance and to keep up with growth.

Please take the time to visit http://www.livejournal.com/paidaccounts/
and renew your membership. There are membership levels as inexpensive
as $5 for two months, all the way up to $25 for a yearly membership.

As always, the membership dollars go to paying the day-to-day
expenses
of running LiveJournal.

Finally, LiveJournal is in the best position ever to offer you
everything
you could hope for! Faster service, new features, and perhaps
the best
online community in the world!

We hope you realize that a LiveJournal membership is something
worth having and that LiveJournal is a cause worth supporting,
but
if you're not entirely convinced, we'd like to hear from you
and find
out what it would take to convince you to renew your membership.

Please feel free to email me us at webmaster@livejournal.com
and
one of the team will get back to you.

Many thanks,

LiveJournal crew

Stalking vs. Harassment

Many cases of cyberstalking reportedly begin with unwanted e-mails, but repeated unwanted e-mails do not necessarily constitute "cyberstalking" and we need to distinguish between "harassment" and "stalking," even though the two terms often seem to be used interchangeably on many web sites.

If the generally accepted standard for offline "stalking" is whether the communications are such that "any reasonable person" would experience fear or dread, then applying that standard: if Person A repeatedly sends e-mail to Person B that is of an offensive nature, but Person B does not feel threatened, fearful, or experience dread, we might say that Person A is "cyberharassing" Person B (or attempting to harass Person B, perhaps, since if Person B does not feel bothered by the e-mails, perhaps we shouldn't even label it 'cyberharassment'), but I would not say that Person A is "cyberstalking" Person B.

In my view, what distinguishes "cyberstalking" from "cyberharassment," then, are the pursuit and fear aspects: the cyberstalker follows the individual around the Internet (e.g., reading and/or posting to usenet groups the individual frequents, using web sites to research and obtain personal information about the individual's online and offline life, looking for the individual in chat rooms, sending repeated emails to the person or repeatedly posting about the person, etc.) -- and as a result of the pursuit aspect as much as (or as well as) the content of any missives or statements, the individual experiences fear, some sense of dread, or actual harm. Making someone's life "miserable" by posting nasty untrue things about them may be harassment and may be actionable legally via civil proceedings, but if the victim experiences fear or dread for their personal safety, then it goes beyond "harassment" and falls under "cyberstalking," in my opinion.
Thus, although many people toss the label "cyberstalker" around lightly, if Person A repeatedly insults or harangues Person B in a usenet group, but never attempts to contact Person B outside of that usenet group, that might constitute "cyberharassment" at some point, but I would not consider it "cyberstalking" at all.*

Trolls, Kooks, and Cyberstalkers

Trolls, Kooks, and Cyberstalkers

But what about "trolls" and "net kooks?" How do those terms relate to "cyberstalking?" Within the commonly accepted jargon, a "troll" is a person who baits a group, trying to get a response or to start a "flame war." The "troll's" behavior is not targeted to a specific individual but to a "general audience" of anyone the troll can snare with the bait. Unlike a stalker who pursues an individual, a troll shows up and tries to get others to respond to him or her.

The relationship between "cyberstalker" and "kook" may be more difficult to untangle, however. The Jargon File defines "kook" as:
kook

[Usenet; originally and more formally, `net.kook'] Term used to describe a regular poster who continually posts messages with no apparent grounding in reality. Different from a troll, which implies a sort of sly wink on the part of a poster who knows better, kooks really believe what they write, to the extent that they believe anything.

The kook trademark is paranoia and grandiosity. Kooks will often build up elaborate imaginary support structures, fake corporations and the like, and continue to act as if those things are real even after their falsity has been documented in public.

While they may appear harmless, and are usually filtered out by the other regular participants in a newsgroup of mailing list, they can still cause problems because the necessity for these measures is not immediately apparent to newcomers; there are several instances on record, for example, of journalists writing stories with quotes from kooks who caught them unaware.

An entertaining web page chronicling the activities of many notable kooks can be found at http://www.crank.net/usenet.html.

--"The on-line hacker Jargon File, version 4.3.3, 20 SEP 2002"

Notice the "trademarks" of the "kook" -- paranoia and grandiosity and a tendency to persist despite public exposure of the falsity of any claims. Could such an individual actually have a mental illness and be more inclined to engage in perseverative or pathological behaviors such as cyberststalking or stalking? There is nothing in the definition that indicates whether the term is only to be used for those who stay within a particular usenet group or mail list or forum. It may be that those who stay in one setting are the "harmless kooks" while those who follow people around because they disagreed with them should be referred to not as "net kooks," but as "cyberstalkers" if their pursuit engenders a feeling of fear or dread in the victim.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Footnotes:

* Even calling such an event "cyberharassment" may be putting us all on the slippery slope of distinguishing between "harassment" and an individual who just feels passionately about a topic and persists in arguing about it. I anticipate that our definitions of terms such as "harassment" and "stalking" when applied to online conduct will become more refined over time.

Some people have things to hide and do not even stand up for their opinion...

Others see you as fresh, lively, charming, amusing, practical, and always interesting; someone who's constantly in the center of attention, but sufficiently well-balanced not to let it go to their head. They also see you as kind, considerate, and understanding; someone who'll always cheer them up and help them out.

My personality is rated 33.

Someone posting something not insulting and pretty clever
on brain fuse, wow! ( even thought presuming I can't write or think or say a coherant sentences
is not really a nice thing
to say
Anonymous ( why can't people post with their name??? they are afraid to get attacked by the brain fusers or what?

Help me understand. If people here really want Sani to go away, why do they keep talking about her? Even when she's not here it seems there's always somebody bringing her up yet again. Some of the posts I've seen are incredibly petty like they're trying to continue the problem.

If people really do want her here, then why do they keep teling her to go away? I don't understand this reasoning.

updated
I am not Sani. I had hoped that my ability to write a coherent sentence made that clear. I am just someone who wonders why things are dragged out if people dislike them, but I guess you all have your reasons

They keep talking about me no matter what and yes, that makes me come back even more as I
w ant to see what they say.
Some of them have really lost common sense and what is right and true...but maybe when I flip out that is what is like to happen.
Anyway...the answers show me what kind of person I thought were nice and clever, Iw as wrong about that.
I did allready report people for absue,as I do not want to have
my adress just like
that online, but that was obviously my business and really not a good idea. I personally give it to people I trust and the person who posted it got it when I asked to get a postcard from a trip to spain.
I should maybe choose better.
Also I enver asked to get rid of the site ( its one that I read regulary, why should I get it off???? What for and i was sure it was
the harddisc if ever they would just take it off. I thought they would ask to remove the adress nothing else..and if the person would not....than maybe the whole site as posting adresses of epople is obviously againsed the terms of service.

listening to Bright Eyes, thanks to Tina.
even thought she find it important that she didn't make it by purpose to give me the idea to listen to it. She did however make my pupose two live cd's from Crime and the City Solution for me and Alain ;-) Their singer is the australian Simon Bonney and Alain make his site about him partly. She did also keep telling me to listen to Madrugada and when I thanked her for menntioning Bright Eyes, she said if there was anyhting to thank her for, she never made it by purpose.
That simply can't be true. She even told me "Nicve to see you here" when she saw me at livejournal.
Well, afer two months that was obviously over, she took me out of her friendslist there and did create a new lj, first secret to tell behind my back that she was trying to get rid of me; How easy and fair would that have be to just tell me and by explaining why exactly that I can learn out of my weak points or out of my mistakes. She did later on sometimes, but also being quite rude...and worse, by sending me mail in english while we are both german. Did it even occur to her that I understand way better my native language ( our native language in this case?)
Conor Oberst joke on Fevers and Mirrors..I put a needle into my arm if I don't get enough attention...lol
There is a lil Interview on it ;-)
I just bought the new Madrugada, while it is out since 2002 allready, but I just woke up and realized that.
Glitterhouserecords is really great and fast!!!!!!!!
A must;-) And Rainer is a Simon Bonney fan, even thought he can't take the financiel risk to publish Simons third Solo album "eyes of blue" it is a great album and I honestly wished they would publish it somehow as it is ready since so long time.

wow...wow..finally , after 24 hours I found my way to update again..isn't that sweet?
